but for good people to do evil — that takes religion."

We’re supposed to pray for the oil fields now..
Please stand, lower your head, and wash your hands with holy fracking fluid. It’s time to pray for the oil fields.
Well, at least it is according to Mary Fallin and her friends with the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. They’ve designated October 13th as “Oilfield Prayer Day” across the state. It’s one of those absurd real life things I wish I was making up, but I’m not.Source: The Lost Ogle

I was subjected to exorcisms as a child to treat my epilepsy
At the age of 30, I was formally diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy, the reason for the deja vu, called “auras”, commonly associated with seizures.
My parents decided that when I was about two, I had been cursed by a witch, and that I was demon possessed. I was told this story repeatedly throughout my life, and accordingly, I believed it.
I had many sensory issues, which included auditory and tactile, and disliked being touched by most but my mother. I reportedly screamed from the age of three months to three years old, and was branded the naughtiest of children. I was raised with harsh corporal punishment, and sent for exorcisms on at least four occasions to try and expel the demons I was told lived within me.Source: The Guardian
Colorado church didn’t report pastor’s child sex abuse because ‘biblical counseling’ would suffice
A church in Thornton, Colorado has come under fire after court documents revealed this week that it failed to report a pastor’s sexual abuse to police because it believed the problem could be solved with “biblical counseling.”
Local news station KDVR reports that Pastor Robert Wyatt repeatedly had sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl who was parishioner at the Agape Bible Church in Thornton. What’s even more disturbing about this case, however, is the fact that court documents show church officials knew about Wyatt’s sexual abuse and did nothing.Source: Raw Story

Indiana woman uses state ‘religious freedom’ law to justify lashing son with coat hanger
A 30-year-old Indiana woman facing felony child abuse charges is arguing that she should not be prosecuted under the state’s “religious freedom” law, WTHR-TV reported.
Kin Park Thaing said in court that she beat her 7-year-old son with a coat hanger in accordance with her religious beliefs and quoted from the Biblical verse Proverbs 23:13, which states, “Do not withhold discipline from a child: if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.”Source: Raw Story
Texas woman kept Mexican slaves for 14 years, said they’d go to hell if they disobeyed
Olga Murra warned one of the women she kept as a slave that if the woman disobeyed, immigration officials would come to Texas, kill her and bury her in a field “with other illegal aliens.”
And the punishment wouldn’t stop there.
For 14 years, Murra convinced two women that she was “the voice of God” — even making them listen to recordings of her reading Bible verses as they cleaned houses, sometimes seven days a week, court documents said.
If they didn’t do as she said, Murra convinced the women, they would spend eternity in hell.Source: Washington Post
Female genital mutilation is ‘harmless, helps tame desire’, says senior Russian mufti
Female genital mutilation does not pose health risks and “does not contradict the dogmas of Islam,” said the head of the North Caucasus Muslim Coordination Center, following a damning report about the outrageous practice in Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan.
“As far as I know it is done in order to tame women’s desire a bit. It is absolutely harmless to health,” mufti Ismail Berdiev claimed in an interview with the “Govorit Moskva” radio, referring to female genital mutilation. He added that it is “purely Dagestan’s tradition,” suggesting that the practice is limited to areas of just one of Russia’s southern regions located in the North Caucasus.Source: RT News
Disturbing Lesson from Christian Workbook Discusses Why God Allowed a Little Boy to “Be Molested”
The folks at Homeschoolers Anonymous recently got their hands on some old workbook pages used at the Institute of Basic Life Principles. That would be the Christian ministry founded by Bill Gothard, a man who resigned as President a couple of years ago after 34 women accused him of sexual harassment.
In these workbook pages, which are approximately 20 years old but still aligned with the ministry’s current teachings, students are presented with a question: “Why did God let a four year old boy be molested by a fifteen year old neighbor?”Source: Friendly Atheist
