  • What is a Twitter List?

According to Twitter “A list is a curated group of Twitter accounts. You can create your own lists or subscribe to lists created by others. Viewing a list timeline will show you a stream of Tweets from only the accounts on that list.” and man I love lists. I use them to group my fave atheist accounts I often retweet, scientists posting the latest findings, and of course to keep track of asshats and god bots. Twitter Lists can be made private as well. I use private lists to keep track of my fave tweeple and people I have unfollowed. Lists are a great way to keep track of different accounts and if you are “blessed” with OCD like I am it’s a great way to keep everyone I interact with organized. 👍

  • How to mute a conversation

Getting stuck in a thread full of people means there is very little hope of being untagged from the conversation. Twitter has recently added the option to “mute a conversation” but it isn’t very user-friendly i.e. almost impossible to find. 🙄
Whether you are on the website or an app to mute a conversation just click the arrow in the top right corner of the tweet and it will drop down a menu giving you quite a few options but most importantly the ability to mute the conversation. Yay 🎉

  • Sticks and stones may break your bones but calling people names will get you suspended

One of the more annoying features of twitter’s war on free speech has to be the forced time-outs for simply using a word to describe someone else in an argument.. and depending on the word used, your time in the sin bin could last anywhere from 12 hours to 7 days. 😱 The offense could be a simple “you’re a bitch” and if the person you are tweeting chooses to report the tweet see you in a few hours! There is nothing right about this sort of censorship but unfortunately this is another one of those don’t like it don’t use the platform kinda things because they certainly seem more worried about people cussing at one another than they do open pedophile accounts or isis recruiters.. 🤷‍♀️

  • The incognito browser window is your friend

Your tweet says there are 6 replies but you only see 2.
You have been blocked by someone but still want to know what they are saying.

    Enter the incognito browser window.

If you can’t see replies chances are you have muted the account that is replying, just copy the link to the tweet and open it in an incognito window. The same goes for any profile that has block you, just open the profile in an incognito window.

Unless an account has protected their tweets there is no privacy whatsoever when using the incognito window. and remember this goes both ways 😉

  • Useful Twitter Links

Twitter SupportIf you are new to twitter or just experiencing something new.. here is a list of super useful twitter links.

  • Twitter Search is actually useful!

Learning to use twitter’s search is super simple and it is a very powerful tool to locate pretty much any tweet you are trying to find.
For example.. want to find tweets that took place between two users? just enter @username + @otherusename and you will see all the tweets involving these two users. Using the search option @username + keyword will help you find any tweets that user tweeted containing that specific keyword.

For more information on twitter search:

  • Oh no.. I’ve been blocked!

BlockedThe first thing I do when someone blocks me is block them back. This way your tweets aren’t easily available to your blocker for them to use to report etc. Being blocked by someone on twitter means you won’t be able to see anything they have posted through a twitter app or normal browser window, however if you just have to see what they are tweeting about you can always open their profile url (ex: http://twitter.com/username) in an incognito/private tab of your browser and now you can see everything.👍

  • Help! I’ve been added to the “Tiny Penis” list and I don’t even have a penis!

Have you been added to a list(s) you would rather not be on? There is a super easy solution for stopping the serial listers. Just block them. This will not only remove you from all of their lists but will also remove them from your followers list. Removing someone from following you is handy for those people who feel it necessary to force their beliefs on every one of your tweets. You will disappear from their feed and (*fingers crossed) they will usually just forget about it. Unblocking afterwards is always an option, but you will no longer be on their lists. 👍

  • Never throw the first punch..

I’m not talking about the occasional light-hearted jab at someone like Ken Ham or Joel Osteen.. I am talking about responding to someone’s tweet in a way that could be considered harassment. The reality is using Twitter means playing by their rules. No matter how ignorant or wrong someone’s tweet may be they have a right to say whatever they want as long as it is not directed at someone else. (If the tweet needs to be reported then report and block.) If you engage them in a way that could be considered harassment you will be considered the aggressor and if anything happens, the account that ends up suspended.
